ABOUT AWARE TEACHER
Founder: Martin Hofkamp
I've taught, coached kids and teachers, and mentored public schools in Louisiana, Indiana, and Cambodia. I hold a Master's degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University. I recently relocated from St. Louis, where I was working as the Lead Coach for STL City SC's City Schools program, to Providence, RI, where I am currently pursuing my Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teaching Certificate and serving on a community advisory board for a peer-reviewed study on mindfulness in clinical mental health at Brown University. Additionally, I develop social-emotional curriculum for Football for Worldwide Unity and work as a mindfulness mentor and education consultant. My life's work is bringing joy and mindfulness into education so that children and adults treat themselves and each other with love and understanding. The CITY Teacher Project is a natural extension of that mission because physical education and sport are where the students we teach are eager to play and improve socially, physically and mentally.

Based in St. Louis, Missouri, we are working to create and share a play-based curriculum that incorporates mindfulness and creativity.
Our curriculum uses “friends” instead of “students” because it’s not just for the classroom. We encourage coaches, group facilitators, parents, and anyone else to use our free lesson plans and videos.

Mission
We are developing a free play-based Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum. We share the joy of mindfulness in education as widely as possible.
Vision
Classrooms, teachers, and families with young children will have an excellent play-based Social Emotional Learning Curriculum that is free, easy to implement, and empowers children and adults to learn the skills of safety, self-awareness, compassion, joyful living, and self-esteem.
